Workshops for
support professionals
Hoea tō Waka is an evidence-based resilience model designed especially for Aotearoa.
Support clients. For social workers, medical professionals, counsellors, youth workers, psychologists, teachers… Learn to sustain effective, culturally relevant support within your organisation.
Help clients find their power and set goals that have meaning for them. Build rapport in a flexible and culturally relevant way. Hoea tō Waka provides a non-confrontational way to help clients explore where their thoughts, emotions and behaviour come from. Help clients see how they can be powerful in the face of life’s challenges. Help clients to develop more understanding for the challenges other people face.
Hoea tō Waka is suitable for both mainstream and Kaupapa Māori organisations.
Honour clients' culture, background and life experience.
Explore where thoughts, feelings and behaviour come from. Then help clients to create goals that are meaningful to them.
Hoea tō Waka fits with models you are currently using. Hoea tō Waka is based on third wave therapies, particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Metacognitive Therapy. Skills learned are essential for deepening reflective practice.
Staff will learn how to apply the model to enhance their own resilience. The model helps develop a new awareness and responsiveness to our own needs.
Take the concepts home and share them with the short story “My Brother Hemi” and two songs.
